Hands Of Orlac Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
The recording took quite a long time and quite a stretch took for the album then to be released. There's been a lot of energy involved. Hands of Orlac is a collective hallucination and it´s not easy to deal with it.

2.In November you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The new album can be seen as a progression as we would not have liked to stay on the same step statically. Production-wise we have been much more aware of what we wanted this time. And despite the coldness of the overall sound we have been able to inprint the dynamic movement that we wanted. We have been able to as well get a more horror vibe to it. We wanted the music to affect the listener in a psychoactive way.

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of horror and occult topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics and also are you interested in the non fictional side of occultism.
We are a horror themed band. We like mostly to use the classic italian gothic and Hammer productions movies as inspiration for our songs but still we prefer to focus on certain aspects of the plot or change the point of view in the narration. As a band we don't pursue the non fictional side of occultism but the individuals in the group follow their own personal paths.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Hands Of Orlac'?
For the name we got inspired by the silent movie from 1924. The creepy and disturbing atmosphere seemed suitable for the kind of music that we wanted to create.

5.Originally the band was from Italy but now have relocated to Sweden, what was the decision behind the move and also how would you compare both of the countries?
After the line-up became "international" in 2011 during the recording session of the first album the italians of us started visiting the country more often. By 2012 we were only with two italian members left and we decided to tighten up the circle. Italy and Sweden are quite different countries with opposite positive and negative characteristics.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The best shows have been those we played with our friends from The Wandering Midget on the mini tour Opium Dreams Over Sweden, so far an unreplicable experience. Our live performance has no specific traits. A little bit of stage appearence.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We don´t have any confirmed plan in the near future.

8.The album was released through both Horror  Records and Terror  From  Hell  Records, can you tell us a little bit more about these labels?
Horror Records supported us right after we released our demo and trusted us for the creation of the first album. It´s the best label we could have asked for, defnitively the most suitable. We´ve been knowing the people from Terror from Hell for a while and we knew they are really reliable and dedicated, that´s how it developed to the release of the cd. The two labels as well cooperate in a MC release.

9.A year ago you where a part of a split with 'Sodomizer', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?
It´s been a honor to share sides with Sodomizer. A great band, horror driven companions!

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of doom metal?
People who like a certain kind of music showed appreciation. Still, we think our music is not for everybody, specially from a "doom" point of view. We sound a bit unconventional and this might keep away the average listener. We don´t like to sound like many people like doom to sound. But fans know and understand.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Surely Portrait and Vidunder are doing great these days. Other projects don´t have an influence on the band, though. We as well know soon the Instigator will rise to rule with an iron fist.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We will see what ground we will have to wander in the future. Surely a land of mystery.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Something that has always influenced us and will always do is Black Sabbath and the whole surrounding of what they did at that right time. Everybody owes them. On the other hand, our newer music has actually the same influences as the older music but with newer words. Nowadays we listen to good music, mostly.

14.What are some of your non musical interests?
We like to wander the night when the new moon is rising to celebrate the stars and all the creature of the dawning. Some of us like other things, too, like sports.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thank you for the spotlight you gave us and for the interest in our band. Listen to the music from beyond!
