Gale Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new ep?

We’re booking as many shows as possible in the Southwest. Maybe put together a small tour for early next year. We have also have been discussing ideas for a music video so hopefully that sees the light of day soon.

2.In October you had released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also what do you feel sets you apart from other bands of the genre?

I don’t know how to describe our sound. Loud? Metal? Rock ‘n’ roll? The goal was to write loud, dark, and heavy tunes. Patient and disciplined songs. We play what we would want to hear and we think that our sincerity might set us apart.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics deal almost entirely with existentialism. They cover various situations that the individual encounters and the darkness that can be revealed upon self-analysis.

4.What is the meaning an inspiration behind the name 'Gale'?

The name refers to ‘a very strong wind’. We wanted a name that reflected something massive and natural. Something of the world that is beyond our control and potentially dangerous yet provoking and beautiful.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We have only played two shows to date, so far. Our first show was incredible because it was with three bands that we are good friends with and the turnout was amazing. We also played with Eyehategod and that was a true honor to open for those guys. Our stage performance might be more introverted than extroverted given the nature of the music. You’ll have to come see us! Haha

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have a show with Corrections House here in AZ in December. I’m booking a January show right now as well as a 4-5 day stint in the Southwest for February.

7.On the album titled you had Volume 1 as a part of the name, is there a concept going on with your releases?

Vol. 1 is the name of this release. It is titled as such for a few different reasons but the subject matter on the album is the biggest reason. There may be somewhat of a concept going on but I do not want to say too much about our intentions when it comes to music that has not yet been written.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Possibly. We have received compliments from some local labels and we would certainly work with one if the details were right.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of stoner, doom, and sludge metal?

The feedback has been very positive so far! We have had tons of very enthusiastic responses from all over the world. We’re just glad that people like our music as much as we do. I did read one negative post on a forum somewhere that was hilarious! The post simply read, “This shit fucking sucks.” Hahaha! It still cracks me up.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

That is hard to say. None of us like putting limits on our music not to mention, when we start jamming, conversations we may have had go out the window. The writing process is very fluid for us. What I feel safe saying is that the music will be even darker. Well, I personally would like that.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We all like such different music. Like some bands that one of us may love, the other guys will hate.  What we all tend to agree on is loud as fuck, rock and metal, dark and ambient, as well as discipline and honesty in our songs.

I personally have been revisiting a lot of the blues recently. Delta Blues to be more specific. I was raised on that shit and it is tough to beat.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I ride motorcycles, Wilson trains Muay Thai and other forms of ass kickery, Brandon likes to drink, and Nick is an asshole.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Support all independent bands, buy their merch when they roll through your town, and go download our album for free on our bandcamp page.
