My Own Ghost Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

My Own Ghost was founded in 2013 by 5 musicians coming from Luxembourg and Germany.
All of us are involved in the songwriting which explains the vast musical diversity on our debut album LOVE KILLS, , ranging from pop-rock to metal and electronica. In just one year we've worked quite a lot, we wrote and recorded a 13-song album, played concerts in the UK and Luxembourg, signed a distribution deal with Secret Entertainment from Finland, recorded a promotional live-video for our first single CRYSTAL BALL and now we are busy planning a tour in Germany, the recording of a video clip for our second single SILENCE, writing new songs,...

2.You have a new album coming out in September, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Our music is based on rock with influences of pop, metal, electronica. Our main style could best be described as dark rock paired with modern sounds.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

All the lyrics are about relations between human beings, and/or situations you encounter in life. One could say that the lyrics are quite dark and maybe even sad.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'My Own Ghost'?

Everyone has his own ghost to carry around through life. This could be your past, bad or good thoughts,...and some of us might even feel haunted by this ghost. This very personal ghost will never leave us and accompany us throughout our whole live.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Up until now, the best shows we played were in London/UK, at the Dublin Castle, the Rafters, the Cavendish Arms and the White Lion. In Luxembourg one of our biggest shows was at the Rockhal. On stage we try to move and interact, we try to deliver a good show to our public, but nevertheless we always want to stay natural and true to ourselves in what we do.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

End of October we'll be playing a few shows in Germany. Our next step will be to plan a tour throughout Europe, in France, Belgium, Germany, ...

7.The new album is coming out on Secret Entertainment, how did you get in contact with this label and also how would you describe the support they have given you so far?

Actually, Secret Entertainment found us through YouTube. They saw our promotional live-video for CRYSTAL BALL and contacted us thereafter. After some negotiating, we've decided to work together.
Up until now, we are very happy with the work they do. They're always available and support us in every way they can to get our music out to the world.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal and rock?

Up until now, the feedback was very positive. A lot of reviews compared us to such great artists as Evanescence, Paramore, Placebo,... which is a great honour for us.
They seem to really like the songs and the support and feedback they gave us is more than motivation for us.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

It is always difficult to look into the future. Our main goals would be to play as many shows in as many countries as possible, to write and record new songs, release a new album, and to inspire our fans with new and good music. Naturally we'd like to find the right persons to support us doing all this, such as a manager, a booking agency,...

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We all listen to very different music, but some of the main influences would be:
The Cure
Paramore
Evanescence
Placebo
...

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

All of us have a job, and in our spare time we like to do what all of the young people like to do, we go out, have drinks, ....

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We want to thank all the people who have supported us and believed in us. Without all of them, we wouldn't be where we are now with our music.
