Ransom Call Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Klemen Markun RC: It all started last year as a project of 2 guitarists, me and Stular, both ex members of sleaze rock band Street Creeps. Soon after drummer Dime, member of the old school thrash band Sarcasm, joined us. At the beginning we made some changes on bass and vocals, before we finally settled down in this line up, with singer Dani and bassist Dare in March 2014. We are playing our own stuff right from the start, so we immediately went to studio and recorded 4 demo tracks, which are called ''Creatures on the Loose''.

2.Recently you have released your first demo can you tell us a little bit more about your musical sound?

Klemen Markun RC: Our music sound combines raw sleaze metal and horror punk with some other metal influences.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Klemen Markun RC: Our lyrics are mostly written in ''tongue-in-cheek'' manner and cover creepy stuff like zombies, murderers, horror movies, and on the other side some classic sex, drugs & rock and roll themes in a darker way.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Ransom Call'?

Klemen Markun RC: Name came up spontaneously. Our ex bassist suggested the name ''Bloody ransom'' and my immediate reaction was ''how about Ransom Call?'' Others agreed and then we just had to make sure that the name isn't already taken :)

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Klemen Markun RC: We played our first gig 2 weeks ago (15 May 2014) in our hometown, along with 2 other bands. For our bassist it was also his first time on stage. Feedback and reviews were good for a start. Then we played another 2 shows this weekend (30 and 31 May 2014). On Friday we won a contest at a local festival, where we competed against 3 other artists. Although we just started doing gigs we have been fortunate enough to have this kind of support.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Klemen Markun RC: Yes, sure. We will try to get a few gigs in the summer, maybe at some smaller festivals. After that we plan to tour Slovenian clubs. We also hope we'll soon get a chance to play abroad.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Klemen Markun RC: Our first demo was just released, but we will soon go to studio again and record a few more songs. We are also doing a lot of promotion and I hope we'll get some attention from labels.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal and punk?

Klemen Markun RC: We are getting positive reviews and comments. Every feedback is important for us, so we try to reach as many people worldwide as possible because sleaze rock/metal scene is quite small here in Slovenia.

9.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Klemen Markun RC: We'll definitely continue with this style and try to progress as musicians. Our plan is to record a full length album early next year.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Klemen Markun RC: Each of our members listens to a lot of different music styles from glam/sleaze rock to industrial, thrash and other styles of metal. Among the bands that influence us the most are Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Alice Cooper, Sister, Ragdolls, Hardcore superstar...

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Klemen Markun RC: Partying, drinking and good food are some of them, haha.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Klemen Markun RC: Listen to Ransom Call loud, watch horror movies and party till dawn.
See ya at the freak shows.

Cheers,
Ales "Dime" Korosec
